We will lead the creation of the next 10-year Plan of Conservation & Development (POCD)—a blueprint that will shape how our town grows—through open dialogue and active community engagement. Our goal is to ensure Westport grows in ways that preserve what we all love about this town while addressing real challenges such as housing, traffic, flooding, and environmental resilience.
Our commitment to you is that the POCD will be built with residents, not behind closed doors, through open dialogue, listening to concerns, and planning that reflects the values and priorities of the whole community.
The smarter path to limit density and maintain control is to plan on Westport’s terms, not let developers dictate it. That means:
By expanding opportunities for teachers, seniors, town staff, and young families, we’ll ensure housing solutions serve Westport, not outside developers.
We will continue to make Westport vibrant and livable by supporting local businesses, implementing the Downtown Plan, creating structured parking if it fits, and delivering the long-overdue redesign of Parker Harding Plaza. Together, we will keep Westport a great place to live, work, shop, dine, and gather.
Westport’s roads are overburdened, and daily congestion impacts safety, time, and our quality of life. As P&Z members, we will require every project to address traffic and circulation while improving pedestrian and bike safety. By partnering with town officials, neighbors, and developers, we will strengthen sidewalks, expand safe routes, and build a connected system that makes it easier to move around Westport by car, on foot, or on two wheels.
We will continue to conserve rivers, coastline, and open space while creating opportunities for recreation and gathering along the waterfront. By balancing protection with thoughtful activation, we will keep our shorelines a cherished treasure for generations.
As members of the P&Z, we will work to safeguard open space and natural resources, promote sustainable and resilient development, and protect the air, water, and shoreline quality that define our community. Thoughtful planning today ensures that Westport remains healthy, livable, and beautiful for generations to come.
We will continue to invest in infrastructure and planning that reduces flooding risks, protects homes, and promotes climate-resilient growth. By adopting stricter drainage regulations and stormwater standards, requiring on-site retention, and using updated rainfall data in drainage designs, we will safeguard neighborhoods, strengthen the environment, and ensure Westport remains resilient for generations to come.
Residents deserve to trust the Planning & Zoning process, and that means fair hearings, open meetings, clear communication, and consistent application of the rules. Every decision will be transparent, accessible, and accountable to the people we serve, not special interests. By continuing to improve communication, making participation easy, and keeping decision-making open, we will ensure that every Westporter has a voice in shaping our town’s future.
Our team will not stop fighting to preserve parking downtown and green space. Residents and business owners have been clear — we need a vibrant downtown that works for everyone.
The Downtown Plan Implementation Committee Chair recently said the P&Z commissioners’ opinion on the pre-application for the Parker Harding redesign “was decided on party lines,” with the Democratic members opposing a plan to eliminate 40 spaces from that vital parking lot.
In April 2024, the Democrats on the Commission voted against a plan to reduce spaces in Parker Harding and pave parts of Jesup Green to make up for the loss. All three seated Republicans voted in favor of paving over Jesup Green.
That’s why this election matters. As Democrats, we’ll continue to stand up for practical, balanced planning that keeps parking accessible, supports our local shops and restaurants, and keeps downtown welcoming for all.
